SPF Water Engineering designed the new 6 million gallon per day (mgd) clarification facility for Bridger Coal Company near Rock Springs, Wyoming. The $3.4 million facility started treating water in November 2011 and SPF has been providing operational services since start up. The facility is treating water pumped from the underground workings at the Bridger Coal Mine. The treated water is used as cooling water at the Jim Bridger Power Plant, replacing 1.5 billion gallons of cooling water per year, or approximately 20% of the cooling water supply for the 2.2 GW power plant. Other cooling water is pumped 54 miles from the Green River in southwest Wyoming.
